The artwork is about little penguins where the largest colony is in Victoria at Phillip Island. Penguin Parade has been a major tourist destination and conservation effort. The motif background features some of the fauna on the island and the food hunted by penguins like tuna, arrow squid and so on.

The schoolgirls with bright cerulean blue school uniform, in the midst of play, are perched on top of the grapevines. Though the vines are thin, they are strong and supports the girls, as if they are floating. The vines' strength symbolises a large role it plays in Melbourne epicurean experience.
